National
Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS)
Established in 1921
The National Honor Society
(NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize
outstanding high school students.
More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who
have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership,
Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics
have been associated with membership in the organization since their
beginnings in 1921.
Today, it is estimated
that more than one million students participate in activities of the
NHS. NHS membership not only
recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to
develop further through active involvement in school activities and
community service.
The students that
participate in NHS are juniors and seniors. The juniors involved in NHS are
Sahill Bhakta, Josh
Flores, Sydney Higgins, Ryan Lopez, Uriah Moncayo, Francisco Padilla, Jenna
Sandoval, and Stephan Vega. The seniors that are participating in NHS are Laticia Aragon, Alec
Gonzales, Danica Gonzales, Anisha Kotiar, Marcus Lopez, Krista Lucero,
Robyn Lucero, Henna Patel, Triana White, Jason Sanchez, Miguel Sisneros,
and Erika Ulibarri. Their sponsor is Monica La Palma
and Stella Thompson.
NHS is a non-profitable
organization that runs through all the USA from the East to West coast.
National Honor Society builds students leadership and character through
community service. NHS is a leader among educational organizations that
promotes recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments
in the area of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
The activities the
students do are a lot of community service: They have to clean up Park
Lake, Route 66, and other public places in Santa Rosa. They collect money
and food for Thanksgiving. They give 20 to 25 baskets to families in need
in Santa Rosa, Puerto de Luna, New Kirk, and Anton Chico. They fundraise all year long to cover their
induction expenses and their community service expenses. They help organize
blood drives in Santa Rosa High School. They get donors to donate food,
drinks, and time.
There are famous people
who use to be in NHS members: Michael Chiney, CNN World News Reporter; Bill
Bradley, Former U.S. Senator-New Jersey: Joseph Allen, Astronaut: Alan
Alda, actor: Cindy Crawford, model: Manny Crisostomo, Pulitzer, Prize
Winner; and Sheryl Crow, Musician.
